“Towns change; they grow or diminish. But hometowns remain as we left them.” ~ Jayne Ann Phillips“If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.” ~ Rudyard KiplingThe Storytellers of Nacogdoches: Tales from the Oldest Town highlights the lives of the four men who are featured in the Storytellers statue. Their gift of telling tales is both legendary and inspirational. The statue, featuring the four men sitting around a table chewin’ the fat, also includes an empty chair. This chair is an open invitation for anyone to join in the conversation. In that same spirit, this book invites fellow Nacogdocheans to share their memories and stories. The result is a tapestry of anecdotes and pictures that will take you on a walk down memory lane. The book is an homage to Nacogdoches, its one-of-a-kind charm, and the many characters and yarn-spinners who continue to pass down their stories from generation to generation. Read more
